Paint Problem

I have an '01 SS and have noticed bubbles in the paint along the front edge of the hood and also just in front of the scoop on the hood. One of the bubbles in front of the scoop has popped and shows the bare fiberglass underneath.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, have they gone to GM about it? I'd like to be armed with as much info as I can before I scream at the dealer. I know of at least one other guy on the forum who successfully sued GM over paint issues.

Other than having the engine replaced under warranty, this car has been a blast! Just did a 1000 mile round trip this weekend and between 80-100mph, I got 23 - 25 mpg!

But, looking at this paint problem is making me sick!

Re: Paint Problem

so long as its the factory paint job, that is something the dealership should be willing to work with you on. If they attempt to stonewall you, demand to be put in contact with a GM service representative and have them work something out.

Re: Paint Problem

I think you might be refering to me.

You shouldn't be worried about suing right now. Just go talk to the service dept. or call the customer service number. Verify that the paint is original first. GM paint warranties are typically between 3-5 years. If they tell you it is out of warranty, complain and tell them it started long before the warranty ended (most paint defects take a very long time to become noticable anyway). If still no gain, ask to contact a GM service rep, like IROC said. They rarely ever want to do this. If they are beating around the bush, tell them you will not be satisfied until the service rep does someting about it, or it gets settled in small claims court.

You shouldn't have much problem because your car is a newer model.

Thanks for all the info. The dealership where I bought the car was bought out by another outfit about a year ago. Hopefully the service manager is the same. He knows me from when we went round and round until I got them to replace the engine at 18k. It was using a quart of oil every 750 miles and they still tried to tell me "It seems a little more than normal." They changed their tune real quick when I showed them the TSB from GM regarding excessive oil usage in the LS1 engines. I'll probably be visiting them next week.

Funny about the bat. I do usually have one in the car....

Re: Paint Problem

Ive got Louis.. (louiville slugger)
short, light, aluminum.. it works..

As with absolutly any type of warranty work, a company will take you much more seriously if you have a lawyer contact them instead of yourself..

most large corporations (be it automotive, or anything else) will almost always try to brush you off to get out of warranty repairs.. I should know, I deal with the public a lot and do a lot of warranty work for a large corporation..

Re: Paint Problem

well damn DaMoNe, you're not supposed make that info public. That's how you get people to dislike you real quick. That's like saying you work for the IRS. Nobody likes them!

I saw a guy get booo'ed on Jeopardy cause he said he worked for the IRS.

Anyway... do you're doors open by remote? Or just a hidden switch?

I have this girl convinced that the car takes voice commands.. now every time she walks up to the car she yells Door open

Re: Paint Problem

Hold on a second, you say the hood is fiberglass??? So it's not the stock hood, and therefore not the GM paint job???

SS's and WS6 Trans Am's both had fiberglass hoods with functional scoops on them, and GM has had many problems with paint over the last 15 years or so. My Grand Am got repainted due to train dust all over it, pits the hell out of the paint if its not taken care of properly, one of my friends had his 99 silverado repainted due to the same problem. As for paint bubbling on the fiberglass hoods, its the first I've heard of but it does not suprise me considering their past with paint. Ever see a 90's corsica with peeling paint? One of my neighbors has one, I laugh every time I see it.
