1996 2.4l Sunfire terrible idle

Hello!

About two months ago, I had to change the water pump on my 2.4l Sunfire (1996, auto transmission). That was interesting, but we got that done. Immediately after putting it all together and starting it up for the first time, the car idled roughly and within a few miles, stalled out on a turn-around with the air on. I checked all the wires and plugs and hoses to make sure it was all connected, and it all looked correct.

The car continues to idle badly, and also runs hotter than it used to, but not in the red. There are no fluid leaks, and nothing seems to be seeping into the oil. I changed the thermostat at the same time I did the water pump.

A mechanic "listened" to the car and said that my EGR valve might be going bad. I replaced it, and nothing improved at all. I have cleaned my IAC, and the problem is now worse. I am getting a 0172 code from the OBDII, system running rich.

I do not have testing meters/equipment of my own, but if necessary, I can probably get ahold of some. Any ideas?

I have a 2001 cavalier with the 2.2L and it had has a rough idle. I have had a view people telling me something in the throttle body air or something but I dont know much about my engine yet. So I havent taken the time to deal with it nor do I have the money to have it looked at. But if that helps any or if you have someone that might know of why it would do that then hit me up.
