'94 Concorde Traction Control

Did all the Concordes have it? Reason I ask is, last week we installed a remote starter and alarm system in our '94. We removed the dash to access the wiring more easily. Where the Traction Control switch would be if we had one (Right of the steering wheel on middle of dash) The plug for the switch is there behind the panel, just no switch is there and the knock out tab for the hole of course is still in. Got us wondering if all they did to add the option was install the factory switch. Maybe there is no difference in transaxles?? Very Curious

To my knowledge, all Concordes that were ordered with the optional 3.5L V6 also got the Traction Control as part of the option. Vehicles equipped with the standard 3.3L V6 did not have that option. It is not as simple as installing the switch, there is the control module, pump, sensors, and other various equipment involved in making it work. There was a big power difference between the 2 engines the 3.3 having 161 HP, and the 3.5 having 214 HP. As far as the Transaxles are concerned, they are identical.

I do have the 3.5 V6, but no Traction control switch. Would it be worth while to add the components neccessary to make it work? I assume the traction control simply makes the axle like a limited slip??

traction control works off your ABS system. If you have ABS, chances are you have the Chrysler/Teves4 ABS/Traction Control System. Easiest way to tell if you have traction control on your car, jack up the front end where both front tires are off the ground (have a jackstand underneath both sides of the car to prevent the car from falling off the jack). Then, start your car up, put it in drive and give it a little gas. If the car tires move freely, you don't have traction control; if they do, then traction control is installed. That's the cheap way, the other, (and slightly costlier way) is to go to a Chrysler dealer and have them hook your car up to a DRB III scanner and see if traction control is equipped on your car.

Gotta admit that's a first, every LH vehicle I have ever seen with a 3.5 has Traction Control, unless somebody swapped out a tired 3.3 for a 3.5 in your car at some point in the past, or possibly the center dash bezel was replaced with a non switch bezel and the previous owner decided not to install the switch. If you jack up the car and run it in drive like theFREAKnasty82 states, you should hear a groaning type sound coming from the engine compartment signifying that it is working as one of the front wheels (usually the passenger side) should try to spin faster than the other (the Transaxle has an open Differential) there should also be a green "TRAC CONT" light on your message center that will illuminate when it activates. Actually after checking my 94 LHS, the green "TRAC CONT" light along with the amber "ABS" and "TRAC OFF" lights should illuminate on the message center as a bulb check when you turn on the key if the car is equipped.

Traction control does not make the Differential into a Limited Slip, what it does is at speeds below 35 MPH, if the ABS sensors detects that one of the front wheels is turning faster than the other the system applies the brake to the spinning wheel to slow it down and will continue to do so to either front wheel until even rotational speed in both front wheels is achieved.
