99 SE DOHC "Low Coolant" Light

I have a 99 with the Duratec. For the last few months the low coolant light has been coming on intermittently. For all intensive purposes the coolant is not low and the temp is always in the normal range. I had the coolant flushed in December of 04 so its relatively fresh. No leaks as my garage floor is clean enough to eat off. Nothing seems to trigger the light to come on. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. AC or no AC running. It is very aggravating. My guess is that it's a bad sensor. How much does that cost??? Anyone else have this problem before.

Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

JR

Re: 99 SE DOHC "Low Coolant" Light

I'm having that problem on my Pontiac GP. The sensor is probably bad. However, I have been told they can be removed and cleaned. The one for the Pontiac is about $45. Hope it helps. I'm not sure where the sensor is on the Taurus, but I would start with the bottom of the coolant overflow bottle, and then check the radiator. I don't have my repair manual with me or I would check where its located. Good Luck, sorry I couldn't help any more on this.
