2000 park brake problem

My park brake has trouble holding the vehicle.
I purchased new shoes and installed them. They did not help enough.
I noticed the left rear park brake drum was worn but was unable to measure.
My cable was fully adjusted, (factory? ) I have not adjusted it.
I was thinking of pulling the rear disc/drum and having it measured. checking the rear shoes again. The shoes were expensive...I would like to try to keep cost down if possible.

Any other Ideas here. Or steps I should follow in the replacement of the rear brakes.

Is anyone else having problems with the rear park brake?

any help and thoughts are greatly appreciated.

the park brakes have now been fixed.
Here is what I found.
After a total teardown of the rear brake system I found the rear inner drums inside of the rear disc were worn too much as was the pads too.
I guess we drive with our park brake on.... I am not real happy about the design of the rear park brake, I would think the older corvette style with two separate shoes instead of a horse shoe type of shoe would of been a stronger and more adjustible system. But I am not an engineer so I know nothing and can prove it...
Info I learned:
the pad thickness is 1.5mm and my drums were worn 1.8mm and 1.2mm (give or take a little). I compared the measurements to new ones at the store.
Parts to fix mine.
2 new drums, NAPA just under $40.00 each, New set of Park brake shoes, and new pads from O'Reilly's - about $130.

Total was about $210.00 for the parts and a few hours. If I had to do it over with the parts in my hand, an hour or so should do it.

By the way, at 99k the rear brake pads still had many miles left on them, I only wanted to do this once.

Hey you helped me. The parking brake on our 2001 Burbon has never worked. I wouldn't worry so much about it except I tow a 26 ft camper with it and we live in the Ozark Hills of Missouri so I hate not having a brake if I have that camper hooked up and have to park on a hill.
TMI...anyway, I have already replaced the shoes and it held for like 1 month now it don't do anything at all. I think it is getting stuck on. Now my truck shakes when I put on the brakes. I think it has warped the back rotors and worn down the new (expensive) shoes to nothing. I have not taking it apart again. I need to do that soon. I guess I don't know how to tell if they are sticking or what to do if it is sticking. Any ideas?

Thanks for the info, My 2000 Burb, does not hold with the brake on. I have thought of doing myself, but not had the time yet. thanks for your experiance, i wasn't sure what was entailed in changing them.

Hmmmmm well how about if you put the brake on and went back and checked the lever where the park brake cable hooks up and check for movement between off and on.
FYI, I almost dropped our pickup off of the Jack stands I have had since high school (over 20 years). almost a bad day. I have now gone out and bought some new 6ton big honking stands. For less than $40.00 I now feel a lot safer. Be careful.
We just got back from Lake Texhoma and the park brake held on the boat ramp!!!
Ozark Hills of Missouri, wow that is a beautiful area, I have always wanted to go to Table Rock Lake and play in the water. Is it as nice as they say?

The design is inherently lousy and everything needs to be finely adjusted to work. I would get a good brake guy to try adjusting it, if not you might need new rotors. Not sure if you had them resurfaced before or not. But it did the trick for me. This is the most common problem with these trucks, IMHO.
