Question backup lights

ok i was just wondering if someone here has ever incountered this problem .on my hatchy the backup lights stay on even when the car's in nutral or 1st gear.I took off the bulbs .arent those lights suppose to come on only when going revers .

I would check the switch on the tranny. It's probably stuck.

Do the back lights stay on even after the car is off??? IF they do then the problem is associated with the brake pedal...i had the same problem a few weeks ago...i thought it was wiring problems so I asked my friend and he told me to go buy a screw aprox. 3-5 cm long. So i bought it and he went behind the brake pedal and screwd it on. The problem was fixed. Too bad i didn't figure that earlier b/c I had to buy a battery to replace the one that died. Light sucked out the power while i was at work.
