Re: I was just wondering

when C&D tested the Jaguar F1 car I believe it ran the 1/4 mile in high 10's with the traction control on. It could obviously run faster with wider stickier slicks and taller gearing.

Re: I was just wondering

Anyway, to answer the question, you might want to read about this very famous race:
http://espn.go.com/rpm/f1/2003/1211/1683710.html

If you google "Schumacher races jet" you will find a lot more information on this race.

To give perspective on the times.
A drag race (1320 feet = 1/4 mile) is within 8 feet of 400 meters.

Schumacher did 600 meters in 9.4 seconds.
That's 3/8ths of a mile or one-and-a-half drag races.

He did just over 900 meters (1/2 mile is 800) in 13.2 seconds.

And the last race of 1200 meters (3/4 of a mile!) he did it in 16.7 seconds.
