I tried to find the answer to this in the FAQs, but got frustrated. My appologies if the info is in there.
Im just wondering if one is better than the other or if there are trade offs. Will an open atmosphere BOV hurt anything? Will it make your turbos work harder? Why did Sitsubishi use a recirculitory BOV if an open system lets the turbos spool faster? Which one is better for performance? Which one is better/safer for the vehicle? Any info is really appreciated guys. I love the cool sound of the open atm. valves, but i really dont wanna do anything thats gonna possibly cause any increase in wear and tear. |

Re: BOV: recirculitory or open?
The open atmosphere ones cause you to run rich in between shifts and when you let off after hard acceleration, as they are releasing metered air that the ECU thinks is still going to the engine. Running rich is bad for performance. As well this can present some issues with stalling as well. This is why OEM is recirculating. Both can work, but generally, if you go with an open atmosphere BOV, you probably will need an air/fuel controller to correct the running rich.

Thanks for the info Igovert. I will most likely stick to the OEM parts....unless i can find a louder recirculitory BOV lol. I think i remember seeing one on some site... |

its not the closed loop that causes the slow respool, its the shitty blow off valve. If you want the ABSOLUTE BEST blow off valve performance, either get the greddy type s or the HKS SSQV with the recirculation kit.

HkS SSQV is a great blow off valve, i just got mine in and will put it on when i get my piping finished. You can even try running it open, and if it works out for you (some people it does) then you can stick with it. If its causing you problems from running rich between shifts, then you can always get the recirculation kit for like 30 bucks i believe, and it'll recirculate it back into your intake.
