Ran the SS lastnight at Firebird.

Well, the car has 1,600 miles on the odo so I figured I'd give her a few runs. The heat lastnight was a miserable 102 degrees F at 10:00 PM..Ugh. Here are a few of the passes...

Lastnight was frustrating and satisfying at the same time. The heat was horrible, the track was worse (everyone running was pissed about track conditions and heat, some were a full second off normal times) and the car only wants to boost just a hair over 10 psi.
But with all of that, it still cut a 14.88, which gives me much hope for when it cools down.

Oh yeah, in stock form this is the worst sport car to run in the 1/4 mile ever produced, there is no such thing as traction in the Cobalt SS...just a whole lot of wheel hop.

Re: Ran the SS lastnight at Firebird.

Those 18" wheels are probably not helping your 60' times either. I think you'll probably run mid to low 14s with it with better conditions. I'm still waiting on the reliability of the cobalts to see if it's an improvement over the Cavaliers.

yeah 102 degree heat is no joke. right now with such crappy conditions your matching the best times that jayson saw at his local track. your trap speed is kinda low though, but the heat is probrably the main culprit, but i don't see the car trapping 100mph stock.

Re: Ran the SS lastnight at Firebird.

Yeah, loosing 2.5 pounds of boost is really killing my mid-top end. I really wanna run her in the winter time, but I don't think it'll be stock by then so I really won't know how well it could do in stock form.
By then I'll have methanol injection and a CAI, I dunno what else tho. But I can always turn the methanol off and see what it does with just the CAI.

Re: Ran the SS lastnight at Firebird.

Well that should stop Jayson from saying it isn't a 14 sec. car. That huge S/C pumps out alot of boost. Very impressive times for the heat, and the lack of a decent 60'. It should run 14.5 sec. with a decent 60' time and the right temperature. Do another run in the winter time, but this should silence the doubters.

Re: Ran the SS lastnight at Firebird.

Thx for all of the encouraging comments guys, I appreciate it.

As for my 60' times...I think I have a solution. A guy makes an engine strut brace for the SS and RL. It keeps the engine from knocking back and forth and is supposed to help eliminate wheel hop, which is the culpurit of my horrible 60' times. Everyone who has installed one so far says they are one of the best mods they could have done. So we will see if this helps.

Re: Ran the SS lastnight at Firebird.

I would have rather the heat been the same and been able to cut off 2.2-2.3 60' times personally. Maybe some day soon...
