bose premium sound

In my 92 z28 it has the bose premium sound. The previous owner who i cant contact because i got it at a dealer had an aftermarket deck as far as i can tell because there is an adapter plate in place. But he took the deck when he traded the car in so now it has no deck and my pioneer wont work with the bose speakers! I HAVE NO STEREO!! Best buy people say the only way around it is to rip out all of the old speakers and wiring and replace it all. What can I do that dosent involve that. Is it likely that I could even find a factory cd deck for this car that will work with the bose speakers?

Re: bose premium sound

best bet is to patrol EBAY, every once in a while one of those decks will come up. but other than that, your best buy people are correct, and actually im impressed by that because they actually know about the system, most stereo places i go to know less about it than i do. Something else you might look into is the compatability of the corvette headunit with the camaro setup, im not 100% sure, but i think you could use the vette head unit. you also need to check all your wiring and make sure he didnt butcher it all up, in which case your gonna want to do like best buy said, rip it all out, replace it with aftermarket speakers, and send all of the bose stuff to me...... what color is your interior again

Re: bose premium sound

the interior is red. I think i have figured a possible alternative solution to getting a factory head unit. The way bose stuff works is that the signal to the speakers is at line level and the amplifiers are at each indiviual speaker. Or there is one amp that is separate from the head unit. So if I get a head unit that has 4 pre outs and I wire it all up it should work. Ill have to test that out though.

Re: bose premium sound

WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! wait a minute, thats not how it works, well it kinda is but the two systems are not compatable. modern head units have pre amp outputs that are 2-4V, the bose amps have pream inputs of like .7V or something like that, id have to do my research again, believe me i went through all of this with my Bose system. my solution was to pull all the bose stuff put it on the shelf, and im now installing a custom 8 or 9 speaker system. because there are no new stereo systems that are compatable with the old bose system. I even contacted bose themselves, and they were no help.

the bose system is the head unit, four speakers, four amps, and another box in between the head unit and the amps, but im not sure what it does exactly.

if you put on a new head unit you will fry the amps and possibly blow the speakers, and trust me when i tell you replacement parts are not easy to find. do lots of homework and contact lots of people before you do anything to the factory setup.

Re: bose premium sound

wrong....no need to get crazy a rip out the bose. my car also has a bose system and i have a sony deck, there is a cross connector that im sure u can get from circuit city that makes aftermarket decks work with the bose speakers. i love my speakers and i would never take them out, now the problem u will run into is u cant run a aftermarket amp to the bose speakers. but if u wanna add some sub woofers they will be on a seperate system, meaning they will be controlled seperatly from the bose. they will be wired into its on network but can all run at the same time if u understand what im saying. no need to go through all of that re-wiring unless u really want something else in there.

Re: bose premium sound

no you cant change your screen name, youd have to create a new one, and id ban the one youre using now.

as far as the bose, im gonna back out saying not to just hook up a head unit and see what happens, i dont really remember all the facts i figured out, and im not a stereo person, so im gonna bow out before i start talking about things i dont understand, so just a word of caution regarding how you go about testing things out. i would take the time to get your facts strait, it will probly save you alot of money.

What type of adapter plate are you talking about? If you could describe to me what it looks like, or better yet, even take a picture, then I could surely help you out. I'm guessing what your talking about is that there's a different adapter that hooks up to a radio than that of the stock GM one?

Re: bose premium sound

As far as I know, Bose has goofy impedence values. Although an aftermarket deck would prob work, it might not get as loud. And preouts have nothing to do with how loud it is, you can use 2.5v preouts and get an amp just as loud as 8v preouts. It just matters on how far up the gain gets turned on the amp.

Re: bose premium sound

I just got the reply from bose that this is possible with the aftermarket harness. They said it degrades the sound quality though. But ill take anything right now.

Re: bose premium sound

damn if it took away from my sound then i better be thnkful because my speakers hit so damn hard everyone thinks i have a box in my trunk and in real life all i have is the 5 speaker bose hook up. it bumps hard and i got a warning from a cop about it being too loud. makes me wounder how hard they really are. but like i said i have an after market deck and it works fine
