Add CD Changer to 2003 Wagon
I want to add a CD changer to my 2003 Wagon, but can not find any pre-wired harness to connect to. It is my understanding that it should be in the car somewhere. The factory installed AM/FM/Cassette player has CD controls. It is also my understanding that the climate controls run through the factory installed unit so I am afraid to mess with the installed unit. Thanks for reading.

Re: Add CD Changer to 2003 Wagon
Hi,
i went to a sound shop once about replacing my cd stacker. because it is a different plug to anything aftermarket, you can only get the really expensive ford one so....the guy told me to get a CD player that plays the cds with a remote control or a headdeck etc, and it has a transmitter that sends the cds being played to the FM radio. so you can select an FM frequency and listen to your CDs (I don't know about the car next to you!!?) but I didn't get it because there is a simpler solution: an apple Ipod mp3 player, which works out around the same price and plays thousands of songs. you can get the same transmitter thing for this and it all plugs into your lighter and you have your music pumping through Ford's speakers...hopefully the premium sound ones like ive got because theyre pretty good on that subject does anyone know exactly what the RMS power for the ford premium sound amp is? |

I don't have an answer about pre-wire harness but, I have a 2000 SES and can't find harness either. Supposed to be in trunk behind driver. I too have CD controls. Please advise. Thanks |

cd harness
yes the pre-wired harness is there, it's just plugged in already so it's confusing. You have to unplug it and put the new harness in line then plug the whole thing back in from where the original came out.
I went to cdchangersonline.com and bought the changer for my '99 se wagon and my '01 sable also, it comes with everything you need and it takes no time to hook up if you follow the instructions. It's 2 or 3 hundred dollars but well worth it considering what I would have gone through otherwise. |

Re: Add CD Changer to 2003 Wagon
I have seen the instructions online (sorry can't remember where right now but do a search) for the 6 disk stacker. I personally didn't mess with that. I just bought a whole new one on ebay for less then $100. Granted it only has one cd, but it works great and it was EASY! That's the best thing I can say about Fords, the ease of the stereos is great! I have a Windstar that I also bought for off ebay. Got a brand new 6 disc in dash for $150. Easy out and in, 5 minutes (remember to unhook battery when changing radios. If you don't, the airbags can deploy)
You can also find a Taurus face plate kit on ebay. It gives the heater/ac controls and a slot for a small (single dimm) cd player. Good luck! |
