hahaha....

so today i was running the stang in the driveway to keep it in good shape while it sits, and i started once again wondering why it was running like crap when i didn't have a check engine light or anything. i recalled that i hadn't looked at my air filter since it had been installed late last year. so i pulled it out and to no suprise, it was filthy beyond compare. i spent a good half an hour just hosing it down, let it dry, and reinstalled it, and much to my suprise, my fuel pressure went down about 5 pounds compared to how it had been earlier that day. i can only surmise that my k&n was so dirty that it was actually forming a restriction and increasing vacuum levels, therefore playing mind games with the computer and fuel system. the car isn't insured right now and doens't have a plate on it, so i haven't been able to test it, but just from sitting with it running and reving it a lot, it seems to be running much more smoothly, and the air/fuel ratio seems to be correct.

the moral to the story? CLEAN YOUR AIR FILTER!!!

Re: hahaha....

When I bought the mustang last summer I changed the air filter and it must have had a pound of pollen on it. There were no fins really visible on that filter. I don't know what it is with maryland and pollen but my black car turns yellow in spring and at the end of the summer.
