Oh boy.. what a difficult film to review. On one hand, I was pretty disappointed. I was expecting another fun PG-13 horror movie like The Ring, but it was not scary at all. Not like how The Ring wasn't scary, but the movie wasn't even trying to be a horror film. It was just marketed that way.

On the other hand, it's a pretty entertaining drama / thriller. A lot of difficult issues like parental abuse, loneliness, divorce, rape, and custody battles are dealt with in a very realisitic manner and in just the right pace.

But then again, the overall storyline and plot development is pretty muddled. Each scene towards the end could be mistaken as a climax, so all the suspense that was built up throughout the film is ruined by the time the true climax comes.

It was a pretty good way to spend an afternoon, and all the major players offer solid performances (Connelly, Reilly, Roth). But it's nothing more than face value, and I can't say I'll be adding it to my DVD collection unless the DVD offers some serious extras or a special cut.
