1986 5.0 cat's

I'm buying an 86 5.0 hatchback on friday. I'ts in pertty good condition, no dents nice paint and the best part is that I'm only paying 1g. I've been looking for one of these since I got rid of my highschool car back in 97. Only problem is that it has no catalytic converters. Since I'm in California, I'm going to put those back on right away. I'm curious to know if the 86 5.0 only had one cat per side? Also does it matter what kind of cats I put on there? Thanks

stock there should be four and you can pick up one on ebay for under 60 bucks. some aftermarket h-pipes claim to have much higher flowing cats with equal or better smog control. being in california myself i intend to research those soon.
