Re: oil pan removal 90 3.1

none that i know of. because you could drop the K member out from under the engine, however normally i support the engine with a floor jack while doing that. although i suppose if you had a cherry picker, you could hold the engine up with that, remove the K member, and then the oil pan.

to get the K member out, put the whole car up on jack stands at the subframe, and the rear lower control arms. then take off the front tires, remove the spindles from the lower control arms. there is a cotter pin in the nut, remove it, then remove the nut... OH yeah sorry at this point youll want the front jack stands under the lower control arms in the front. so that they dont snap down and injur someone when the spindles are unbolted. loosen the lower control arm bolts but do NOT remove them. now lift the front off the jackstands and let the spings press the arms down. the arms should swing far enough down to let the springs fall out without any danger. keep in mind youll need a coil spring compresser to get the springs back in. now remove the sway bar, the lower control arms, and unbolt the five bolts holding the brake line to the K member. now undo the six bolts holding the K member to the subframe. lower the front end, and rotate the back mounts of the K member over the brake lines, its gonna take two people to do so you dont rupture the brake lines. but then you should be able to have wide open access to the oil pan.
