Brake pads clunking/movment. how do I stop it??

I need help!!! 1St of all I own a 1995 oldsmobile aurora with 135k miles on it. heres my problem, seems easy but cant stop my frt brake pads from moving/sliding which will cause a clunking noise almost everytime I apply the brakes the release the pedal and begin to acclerate. I replaced the frt pads with aftermarket pads and noise went away for few weeks. Started again so I applyed some grease to the slides and noise stopped for few days. So I replaced the frt pads with Factory pads and still clunking after a few days. The calipers are fine, rotors are brand new aswell. How do I stop these pads from moving. Has anyone had this issue. I have had good luck here before so I figure Ill try again. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks alot

did you disassemble and lube the sleeves the the caliper bolts go though? sounds like they may be sticky.

I Havnt disasembled and lubed the sleeves. Would that contribute
to the frt pads sliding back and fourth. They are literally moving abou 1/2 inch.

Re: Brake pads clunking/movment. how do I stop it??

½"!!! YIKES!

How does the brake pedal feel? Is there a lot of travel?

Do the inner and outer pads wear the same amount or does the INNER pad seem to wear A LOT and the outer almost not at all? Or, does one edge of one pad wear more than another?

Lets say that the sleeves are totally stuck. With your old pads the sleeves would have been completely extended or close to it. Did you have a tough time getting the new pad installed over the rotors? The sleeves allow the caliper to move smoothly as the pads wear to keep the rotor in the center of the pads. if you were to take the rotor out you should be able to fairly easily slide the caliper in and out on these sleeves. Everything should be very snug but slidable by hand.

Yes as a matter of fact I just replaced the pads 2hrs ago and both inner and outer pads are wearing the same. The caliper is operating as designed. The new pads were very easy to instal over the rotors. Im at a loss. Although I know its not a safty issue, it drives me F*#$kin
crazy. Everyone ive spoke with says theres nothing you can do, when it
happens it happens and your S.O.L. I find this hard to believe, it didnt do it when i first owned the car, which means that I should be able to correct it. Thanks for your help!!!!

Re: Brake pads clunking/movment. how do I stop it??

how about the pedal travel -- is it normal (1 - 1½") or does the pedal seem to go too far down?

I have not heard of this problem b4 but i'm willing to work it with you.

maybe new calipers but you say both side do the same thing?

Yes, the pedal travel is at proper specs. The calers are not brand new, but are operating normally. The pads just dont fit tight inside the caliper, its like there not the right pads, but I know they are. Ive heard that there is somekind of aftermarket silicone that is designed for this problem but cant find it anywhere, is anyone familiar with this.

I wonder if someone swapped out the original cals for cals from a newer model - like from a boneyard?
