98 With no a/c clutch enguagement

Have a 98 escort four door with non working a/c. Has plenty of freon 134. The cycleing switch has power on both sides. I have no power to the compressor clutch. I replace the high pressure switch a month ago and it worked fine. I think I may have a ECM problem. Any one had this problem?

How did you test the cycling switch?
It is not likely to be a computer problem.... have you retrieved any trouble codes from the computer?

I think there is an AC relay in the engine fuse box...

With sensor plugged in i back probed both terminals and have power to both. The relay is a module under the air cleaner and it is not getting the 12v signal from ecm to power it up.

Re: 98 With no a/c clutch enguagement

There is a 10A fuse in the engince fuse box with a DB/Y wire leading to the A/C relay. On the other side of that relay is a DG/BK wire that leads to pin 10 on the EEC. This DG/BK wire also splits and connects to the cutout relay. On the other side of this cutout relay is a DB/BK wire leading to pin 54 on the EEC.
Trace these wires to each of the relays... one of them is probably not working. I doubt the problem is in the computer.

After checking all the wires I replaced the a/c module under the air filter. And problem solved. It was also giving me a code for the idle speed control. It must be a bigger problem because the part was on back order and took a week to get.
