Thinking of buying a 2000 explorer sport...Transmission though..

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a 2000 Explorer sport, but there's one issue. It's got 102k miles on it, which normally I wouldn't be *too* worried about in a used car for around 5 grand.

However, I've had a couple mechanics tell me that the transmissions on the explorers tend to go around 100-120k miles. I drove it and it seemed fine, and has no history of transmission problems at this point. How true is this idea that the tranny's go around 100-120k miles, and in general how reliable is this vehicle? Thanks a bunch in advance.

Re: Thinking of buying a 2000 explorer sport...Transmission though..

I have a 2001 sport and no problems at all, maybe the only problem was a waterpump about 90,000,
but the truck now has 132,000.

Its a good truck but like most vehicles it all depends on the maintence of the vehicle, It can last forever if you treat it good.
