Oil Pressure Guage
I was wondering what is the normal operating pressure for a 5.3L V8 in a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe. MY oil pressure guage goes close to 80 when I accelerate, but it operates near 60 psi. I was wondering if this was right. When I drove a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3Lv8, the oil pressure guage didn't operate at those levels. It operated at new 40psi and when you accelerates it went up to near 60-65psi. I was wonderign if this is normal or if soemthing my be wrong with my truck. Thanks a lot. BY the way my truck has 103,500 miles on it.

I own a '96 Tahoe 2WD with the 5.7 V8, Cooper.. When I bought it new, the oil pressure would be about 45-50 lbs. while driving. Now that I have 102,000, the pressure at cold will be at 60 lbs and when I drive it a few miles, the oil pressure will be at 44-48 lbs. However, at idle the oil pressure drops down to 35-38 lbs. I have some concern about this low at idle. But I suppose with that many miles, the law of average goes into effect. But it doesn't use any oil.
