5.0 mustang

I found a 93 gt mustang with 132,000 miles on it. I was wanting to sell my 99 stang because the 5.0 is cheaper to make fast. I was wondering how much money it would be to get it into the 11-12sec area. What would be some good upgrades to get it into this area also. Also when the 5.0's are into that range what all suspension upgrades will i need to do? I am not very educated about the 5.0l mustangs and any help you guys could give me. Also they want 3500 for the car is that resonable. The body is in excelent condition and it was painted 4 yrs ago with brand new tires. Thanks for any help guys.

Re: 5.0 mustang

For a 5.0, id stroke it (347) get a lumpy cam(x-303) , some edelbrock prefromer heads and rpmII intake, some 4:10s and sticky tires.....of course to be safe get bigger spline axle and maybe a built AOD or tremec 5 speed. Thatll get you there an faster if you get it all right.

Other routes incluede a supercharger on a moderatly built 302 0r 331....and some N02 doesnt hurt

ohh and if everything checks out ok on it...then yeah 3500 is a decent price..what tranny though?

ohh and you might search the forums at www.corral.net and there is a ton of info on them there.

Re: 5.0 mustang

Well yeah , most any time you modify an engine for preformance you sacrifice longevity and reliability at times.( not always.) But thats the price you pay for power. If you want an engine to last 200k almost certain, keep it stock.

Ohh and id buy it up man. Especially since youve known the dude and the general condition of the car.

Heres another route to take....you may not hit 11s as easy but 12s are without a doubt within reason.

Id rebuild it if possible, if not then thats cool too but it would be better in the long run...

306(if possible rebuild) forge it if money permits.

ok the rest will work with rebuild or not , and its cheaper,

Get some GT-40s used for cheap (150-200$) Get them worked ( depends on machine shop, but if you do it yourself with a dremel its free! )

Cam...As far as the ford racing cams go , i know either an E-303 is good or B for this type of setup. Otherwise i get the spec for the above mentioned and get a similer to that in another brand.

You can use the stock intakes and work them but i wouldnt. Go ahead and spend some money for a decent upper and lower. Edelbrock is good, trickflow is ok, and the cobra intake will handle hp till 350 or so without restricting too much hp.

Get gears....go deep of course, your gonna lose some top end but i dont see to may ppl driving a 140mph too much anyways. Get either 3:90 or 4:10s with your stick...they get you the most ass-O-meter feel for the buck.

If your limited slip is to limited, lol, then get you an auburn locker or somthing...while your at it if you got the extra $ get some 28splines or the likes to beef it up.

Get some drag radials....youll need them bad if you want a decent ET.

Up your injectors if you like to 24#s, up your pump to as much as you want becasue they all cost about the same from 1++lph to 255lph. you wont need 255 by any means but hey why not? maybe for future mods. I went with a 190lph for some reason and it shoulda been good to around 400+hp if i remember correct.

Youll need nitrous to hit low 12s. go what you feel safe with without pussin out. Id run 150 shot at most with a higher miilage engine if you still want 12s....but ive seen some guy who just dont give a F*** go with 200 all the time.

Lighten it. If you dont need it, chunk it. Is this your toy? Chunk the A/C , and rear seat. Strip all the useless stuff out.

EDIT- Dont forget exhaust! Get longtubes , theyll be worth it. If not than equal lengths and lastly shorties will work decent...if you can get them coated. X-pipe! and your choice of mufflers....

EDIT EDIT!- sorry i didnt have time to post prices for everythinglllmy wife is on me lol, go to summit racing online and check the prices for whats been mention...some things you can scrimp on though so remember you may regret going cheap on certain parts later and end up costing you more. Dont get me wrong, im a cheap bastard, the cheaper the better....as long as those ponies hit the ground im happy.

Re: 5.0 mustang

I had thought about a kb blower but im tired of my current mustang, its slow and would cost more to make it hit 11-12 range than a 5.0. I will have roughly around 10grand for the engine so im not worried about the cost. With the 5.0l mustang what all will i need to make the transmission withstand 350-400 horsepower, also what suspension upgrades will i need for the car. thanks guys and i really apreciate this I will be buying the car in oct. he told me he will hold it for me until i get my settlement.
