Help! Starter disabled after battery change due to alarm system?
I'm hoping there is someone out there that can help me. I have my parents 97 Chevy S10 which has a dealership installed alarm system. We havent used the alarm in years, and don't even have a working remote for it. The battery died on this truck yesterday, so I put in a new one today. During the installation the alarm went off a few times, and now it appears the starter is disabled because of the alarm. The headlights and everything work now, but the starter won't even crank because the alarm has shut it off. There is a button and a switch under the sterring column, but so far I haven't found a combination that would re-enable the starter. Any ideas out there on how to correct this? I have the truck sitting in a parking lot and all of the Chevy service departments are closed today so I can't get any help there. Thanks!

Re: Help! Starter disabled after battery change due to alarm system?
the switch should be just a regular kill switch. Flip one way car won't start, flip the other way and it will. Now the button, on mine you have to put the key in the ignition turn to on position then hold the button for 10seconds and it'll chirp. That turns the alarm off and on. But mine's not a factory alarm, but i'm sure they're all basicly the same.
