I am having a similar problem. I believe it is a bad blower motor. It just happened to me a day ago. With 10 degree temp's, I have to get it fixed.

blower motor comes on when it wants to!

I Had to change my blower motor this summer, It was only working a tiny bit, If you change it yourself like i did, Make sure the rookie at the store gives u the right part, cause i got a blower motor that turned the opposite way, i put it on, it ran but wouldnt push the air, then I figured out it was the wrong one, good luck easy instal, except if your outside then brrrrrrrr here in Canada.....

I had the same problems and more with my '94 S10. The blower bearings would squeal on left turns and the blower would sometimes cut out on right turns. It would not work for days, then work. Sometimes it would work OK for weeks, then stop. All of this was in the summer time. When winter got here, and I decided to replace it, the first one I got had a cage that was about an inch too long to fit. The second one turned the wrong way, and the third worked.

I used to have to kick my license plate light to get my blower to work.

Normally when you get intermittent starting in the blower motor like that it means it's time for a new blower motor. What happenes is that the brushes inside the motor are hitting a flat spot and usually a good bump will get it to shift enough to make contact. (I had both this problem and bad squealing when it did run) Just swapped it out and no problems anymore.

check the wiring harness next to the computer in the passenger's side of the engine compartment. The wires may be loose, burnt, or just plain dirty. I had a similar problem.
