Help with Pearl coat over yellow.
I'm just about to start a new project, bet yet again, confused.. Searched but wasn't sure but if I want to paint my new project (Honda S2000) in camel yellow (Tamiya TS) and then give it a slight pearl look..
I'll spray a coat of halfords white plastic primer first to fill in any small sanding marks, then coat the car with a good amount of mist yellow.. Yellow is hard to apply, or so I've read after searching, by the 5 - 6th mist of yellow the colour should be even.. Can I miss the final wet coats that gloss the paint up, in favour of Tamiya Pearl coats, and then final wet clear? I'll polish the yellow first, then pearl, then clear. Hopefully final clear will just polish with final compound and wax. Will this process work if I wait - 14 days to polish yellow. Polish, wash and dry body. Pearl coat, then clear coat the same day after the 14 day wait? Thanks |

Re: Help with Pearl coat over yellow.
Sound good to me.
Yes Yellow need MANY light coat (5-6) 14 days should be fine too. (most of the people will say more than that, but it's still safe) I don't know what kind of pear you use, but if it's tamiya Clear Pearl, I'm not sure if an other coat of normal clear would be needed (you would have over 10 coat of paint by then !)

Re: Help with Pearl coat over yellow.
What i have done in the past is i would paint the car...prime, dry sand primer with 1500 grit, blow of any excess dust etc....spray base coat (if needed) let sit for 15 minutes approx.....do top coat...then do whatever flake..pearl etc...then clear..then let it sit for about a week or two...then u can continue with wet sanding polishing. NOTE....If u r using spray cans for any of this process...heat them up!!! It works wonders, and shake the crap out of the can. I usually put a pot of water on the stove, wait just until the little bubbles form on the sides of the pot, take it off. Let it sit for like 1 minute and drop in the can and let it sit for about 5 10 minutes ....dry it off, shake it up...then spray...this goes for clears or primers....just my 2 cents....hope I helped.

Re: Help with Pearl coat over yellow.
what i do when using clear of any sort is to lay a wet coat of clear straight over my last (sometimes only) wet coat of colour (after a few mist coats).
then i might lay another coat of the clear afterwards (depending of the coverage) to give me more to polish (to help prevent me going though to the colour which is a pain in the ass to fix). no problems so far...... as for shaking of paint. what i do, is store paint upside down but sit them in hot-ish water (my water tank thermostat is set to 50 celcius) the right way up. shaking is also done right way up. not really sure if it helps get the pigment mixed but it makes me feel better..... |

Re: Help with Pearl coat over yellow.
Put the can right side up with the nozzle out of the water. I Put my cans in really hot water cuz i dont have to wait so long. But b4 I put in the water and after I take it out I dry off the can and shake the crap out of it. You can shake it however you like.
