92 HB DX overheating
Have any of you guys overheated your civics, and got it running again? everyone is saying my car is toast now, but i don't wanna believe them, have any of you come across this, what happened was...the time i drove it when it overheated, is that i drove to the mall then to gas up, but when i left the mall, my car was slow to take off, and when i did take off it sounded like a freakin chopper bike, then after that i went to gas up and it wouldn't start up again, well the engine would turn but wouldn't start.. so we changed the head gasket, did a oil change, rad flush and it still is over heating, but i also heard that the fan switch is a common prob for the civics, it's not insured anymore right now, but what is your guys opinion

Re: 92 HB DX overheating
Humm...
It can be 4 things that may need to be change.. Therostat, Rad Fan, new Rad (if all the cooling fins are bad), and water pump.. To test the fan Disconnect the connector that power the fan and run 2 wires from the 12 v battary to see if the fan turns on. Water pump/ thermostat start up the car and let it run for a bit and check the temp... The fan should turn when the temp gets hot enough. If not than it would be your switch that switch the fan on. For the water pump you need to remove the rad cap CAREFUL IT HOT if you get the rad cap off while car is running check for water flow. You should find water flow as you rev the car a bit. If you see that then water pump is good. If not than need to replace the water pump and at the sametime replace the Timming belt. Let me how this goes |
