Mileage update
2004 Aveo Base model with Cruise, 6400 miles presently, purchased in November 2004. Trip of 1200+ MILES from Florida to NY tires inflated to 30psi, using cruise control 100% on interstates speed varified with GPS. I obtained a mileage with automatic transmission of 39 to 42 mpg US with a speed range of 55 mph to 70 mph. Observed no wind deviations from passing semis or crosswinds, in all a quite satisfying trip in two days daytime driving. Gas prices paid varied from $2.12 to $2.25 per US gallon, speeds on interstate reflected increased gas cost as they were lower than expected. Tires were checked at gas stops for heat, felt warm to hand but not Hot, manufacturer recomended tire pressure.

Re: Mileage update
I have about 3200 miles on my 04 Aveo with 5-speed and am getting just 29-30 mpg with long trips. I did find that my tires were 20-21 psi on all 4 tires, just after I returned from the dealer! I live a cold part of the country but that much loss is not normal. They had balanced & rotated my tires and did a oil change. I am still experiencing a vibration after all their work. BUT anyway, You would think they would have put the pressure as it should be! The GM bulletins say that the Aveo is shipped from factory with the tires at 40 psi and the dealer is alerted to put them at 30 psi.

if possible probably in the 1500-2000 rpm when driving normally. Having an automatic it shifts when it wants to basically, unless I engage the hold control and then it locks into the lower gear. Such as when going up long hills where it wants to up and downshift frequently, I engage hold and it locks into third gear and goes up hills better. Your mileage will improve with use. With 5 speed you should get 45+ mpg on trips. |

I have an '04 with 5spd. After I hit about 5k miles my fuel economy greatly improved. Once the temperatures got into the 40s it got even better. I finally hit 37mpg. Mostly highway driving between 70 and 75 mph. At 70mph the rpms are at about 3k. I wish there were another gear to bring the rpms down and increase mileage. I normally shift between 2500 and 3000 rpm. BTW, gas is up to $2.40 in my town which makes hitting 37 mpg even sweeter.

We have about 5000 miles on ours and a 5 speed. We get about 28-30 around town. Have not taken a trip yet to know. Dealer told me cruise was not an option when we bought ours back 9/04. It would be the perfect little commuter.

Re: Mileage update
Hi Parky,
I bought a 2005 Aveo a couple months ago. All it needs is the cruise control. The dealer said that cruise controls were not available for the Aveo so off to the internet I go and find this forum. Evedently one can be installed on my Aveo. Can you please reply with any information you have about the cruise control you installed. Thanks, Jerry |

I got an '05 LT Aveo. Been getting 32 mpg fairly consistently, mostly freeway. But that's with the A/C cranked. Almost 2,000 miles on it now. Should be 4,000 miles by the end of next month.
The tire pressure seems to lower after use. The internet says it ships from the factory at 40 psi, the tires say max load psi of 44, and you're supposed to keep them at 30 psi. I checked mine when I first got it and the tires were like 35, 30, 28, 27, so I pumped them all to 35. I made a short trip to the store and back and checked them again. Most had settled down to 32 psi. Haven't checked them again since, but should. That's with a bicycle pump with builtin gauge. Those cigarette lighter ones only go up to 30 psi, the spare is supposed to be 60 psi, so I've gotten accustomed to carrying a bicycle pump in my cars. Although mainly because when you finally need your spare, it's generally down to 10 psi. The bicycle pump takes about 40 pumps for every 10 psi, but gets the job done. And if you live in the country it can take 50 miles to find a gas station that has an air pump, much less one that actually works. |
