700r4 4WD vs 2WD

OK, so things are changing here all the time. I found a TH-400 to replace my '83 700r4, but then when I called a friend about borrowing a trailer to pick it up he said he had a 4L60 out of a '91 Suburban. BUT....it was a 4WD, and I have a 2WD.

Does anybody know if I can remove the transfer case and mount the tailshaft off my old 700r4?

And does anybody know a web-site for decoding Tranny model numbers? His is a 13BJP6.

PS: If the 4L60 doesn't work out I'll be going with the longer TH-400 and shorten the drive shaft to fit.
