I'm at a lost on what to call it, but the display/control panel that shows you fuel mileage, when to change oil, trip meter, etc... has anyone had this work then not work then work.
I bought a 96 Aurora and it never worked, no biddy since I was just using it as a work rig, but one day on the way to work the display acutally worked, when I got home and shut off the car, fired it back up and it wasn't working. So it's now a month later and all of a sudden the display and controls for all the options work... I'm thinking WTF. Anyone have a clue on what to start looking at, sounds like a loose connector or something. Any help would be great.... ride on!!! |

Re: Display thingy dangit
sounds like the connecting points behind the cluster may be loose.

This car is its own animal. Everything has its own way of doin. If the panel is damaged in any way, you can usually buy a new module on ebay pretty cheap. The ideal situation would be to carefully pull the section out of the dash and clean all the connectors w/ electrical cleaner or 91% rubbing alchohol. Either will do. I havent had to pull the unit out so if anyone has any tips please advise. The easiest way would seem to pull off the radio trimplate and move up from there. |

I have this "Information Display' on my 98,800 mlie 1996 car doing the same thing along with turning on/off the temp gage, volts light, tration control light, cruise control light and dinging the alarm constantly. I just got it back form the Olds dealer (they used to be one) and the GM mechanics diagnostics are the computer module for this display and other parts are not comunicating with the other modules in the car. Currently I have 3 modules dead and at $500 - $800 per module the car isn't worth the money. Good luck on yours.
