Texas Governor Signs Abortion Bill

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050606/...as_bill_church

Quote:
Perry signed a bill Sunday requiring girls under the age of 18 to get their parents' consent before having an abortion and also imposes more limits on late-term abortions.
Quote:
The new measure requires a parent to provide written consent for unmarried girls under 18. The bill also restricts doctors from performing abortions on women who have carried a child for more than 26 weeks unless having the baby would jeopardize the woman's life or the baby has serious brain damage.
I believe this is a great idea and support it 100%. Parents need to know and give an OK for their kids because they are the ones who are in control.

The thing about abortion is a great idea to because I've seen the pictures and when the babies are this late it's sick. I'm sure some people will see this bill as the first step to ban abortion. I hope so.

Im all for this. Those are a good set of guidelines, and i think they are understandable, clear to all. I guess the arguement that can be made, is the part about the baby having serious brain damage. Some people may argue that its gods will for that kid to be put on earth, so it shouldnt be the mothers choice to have it aborted. But then again you cant please eveyrone.

As a teenage girl, it's kind of aggravating, because I know how some parents can be when it comes to things like that.

As a teenage girl who hopes to have children one day, I totally support this, because I definitely want to know what my child is doing. (Hopefully I'll raise them better than that anyway!)

Re: Texas Governor Signs Abortion Bill

Young girls don't need to be going around having abortions. I know some girls that i went to school with that have young children right now. If only they had waited, their life would have been better than it is now. Imagine how irresponsible some young ladoes would be if no parent consent was needed. "Yep its my 2nd time but it will be gone tommorow."
Having sex and getting pregnant is no joking matter. It is not something that should be in the back of their heads either.

I'm glad to see it. Parents need to know when something that severe is going on, it's not like you cheated on a test or something.

How does aborting a baby because it has serious brain damage make us any different than hitler? I know people that have serious brain damage that live happy lives.

Im very happy about this. I think the 26 week thing is a little long but hey, its better than sucking out a babies brain seconds before it is born. Parents should know if their kid is going to have an abortion. The parents are legally responsible for the health of their kiddo until they are 18 (17 in some states). So why were abortions ever an exception? I also think its a great idea because, as messed up as it might sound to some of the youngins in here, your parents should know if your sexually active. Especially if you are having unprotected sex.

Thats a reasonable law. Nothing wrong with keeping parents in the loop where their child is involved.

I think one of the main reasons that they really like this law is because it'll stop teens thinking "Hey if I get pregnant then no worry's i'll just get it sucked right out with nobody ever knowing" so now more teens will stop having unprotected sex.

Re: Texas Governor Signs Abortion Bill

I like the idea that the governor is signing this bill. I think its great for the parents to know about it....although i disagree on abortion. I have mix feelings on abortion. On one hand...i hate it because people out there have sex, find out they get pregnant and act like having an abortion is just like getting an oil change. On the other hand, i think it is beneficial to women that were enpregnanted (i think i spelled that right ) by rapists.
