Cracked Flywheel????

For the last two weeks or so I had a knocking sound coming from the exhaust manifold area and timing belt area. The knocking is inconsistent but does happen when engine is hot but again not all the time. Went to Toyota today and within 15min of listening to it they said it could be the flywheel. And lo and behold they were right!!! Amazing! They said the flywheel was cracked in several places. The service mgr said he's never seen it on a Rav before and doesn't know how it would happen. They did replace the automatic tranny 2 years ago and I wonder if they did something to the pressure plate or something. I've never read or heard about a Rav4 having a cracked flywheel. Did I just get taken or is this possible?? Oh and they are replacing the timing belt and water pump! Thanks!
