Suspension mods on 2005 XTerra
I am considering purchasing a 2005 Xterra but would like to have a smoother ride on the highway. Has anybody done any mods to an '05. I would assume new shocks would help. I would appreciate any info on mods to an '05. Thanks in advance

Smoother ride? Geez, I've heard complaints that it's too soft compared to the previous model. Drive one of the leftover 04s if possible and compare.

I have driven an '04 and an '05 and think the '05 is a better ride. I also think it is a little too trucky for driving around all day. I like the '05 and want to purchase one, but when I get back in to my '96 Grand Cherokee after test driving the '05 XTerra I wish that it was as comfortable as my 9 year old Jeep. I am sure there are ways to make the XTerra more comfortable I would just like to know how before I buy one!

The reason it's comfortable is because it's a uni-body SUV, car type ride. Sounds like you need to start looking at a mini van. If the reason you are looking at an X is for storage and versatility while driving mainly on the highway you would be unhappy with an X. The Xterra is on a truck frame, it is heavier and clunkier than a uni-body but more durable. My suggestion would be to look a little longer, if ride quality is that big a priority i would not discount a mini van. |
