2.3 turbo coupe problems

A 1988 2.3 turbo coupe, 4 speed auto, 120,000 miles. When car gets warm the RPM`s go up to 2,000, normal idle has been around 1,000. The exhaust puts out strange smell (no smoke though). I still have all my power and everything else is normal, but have noticed lately that (not all the time) my temp, oil, and gas guages go all the way up and stay for awhile, then come back down to normal operating range (don`t know if this is tied in to my RPM problem or not). When car sets for couple days without being started, when started, it takes about 3 tries before engine will stay running. I`ve cleaned all 4 plugs and regaped and don`t see any hoses cracked. Any advice greatly appreciated................Ray

Re: 2.3 turbo coupe problems

check your other thread, could be several things though, IAC valve, vaccume leak, EGR valve, could be timing but i doubt it
