add on ABS?
I am thinking about buy a Nissan cefiro A31 rite now, in Thailand the production years are from 1990~1995. (this car is a JDM car soo...) I have a question, the later model have ABS brakes but their price are also much higher then the pre-ABS brakes one...since i am going to do many modiflication including engine swap etc. i am wondering that is it possible to take the ABS braking system of a later model and put it in one that's pre-ABS model? Thx in advance

Re: add on ABS?
It is possible to do....providing your older car has 4 wheel disc brakes. ABS on drum brakes will not work because most automotive ABS systems are designed for disc systems, with the exception being some older pick up trucks.
You would need a thorough understanding of the function of ABS and some fabrication skills to adapt a suitable master cylinder and wheel speed sensors. IMHO you are better off to optimise the existing braking system and knowing how to use it. ABS is not necessarily better, it just compensates for the lack of decent driving skills found in the average driver. |

Re: add on ABS?
if you know how to do threashold breaking, you don't need abs. abs stops the brakes from locking by pulsing at something like 16 times per second. threashold breaking is where when you hear a brake lock, you relieve some brake pressure and reaply it, dont pump, only realieve some slight pressure quickly and quickly reaply. with that technique you can stop within the same distance as with abs.

Re: add on ABS?
I agree with some of the earlier posts in that ABS doesn't really offer that much. It only prevents wheel lock up. I drove for 21 years without it and 6 years with it and if I had a choice on a new vehicle I would not get it.
