DRL diode???WHERE IS THIS???

I have a 99 k1500 burb with 89k mi...the lights will not switch off of DRL and there is a buzzing coming from the convenience ctr. I changed the DRL module but this did not do it. I searched this forum and found info about the DRL diode but I cannot for the life of me locate it...I looked knee height under the dash to the right of the steering column where it should be bolted to the steel tube....no go...any chance you can show me what it looks like? thanks for any reply

Re: DRL diode???WHERE IS THIS???

Not sure what you mean when you say "won't switch off of DRL"??? You're looking in the right place for the diode. Look for 2 wires, orange and yellow. If your DRL's are working it's not the diode. The buzzing sound you hear is probably the DRL relay located at the bottom center position of the convenience center. That'd be what I'd change out.

Drl Diode

When I turn on the headlights, I can still see the DRL indicator light on in the dash. Then the lights will flicker along with a buzzing noise that comes from the convenience center. I Changed the relay (5 pronged black squared thing) but this didn't help. I was switching on the high beams and that did the trick for a while because the highbeams would not come on and the buzzing stopped. Every once in a while, if I have been driving for a while, the high beams will pop back on and I can switch to lo beams no problem. However if it sits for a while, the buzzing is there again. I was told it must be the DRL diode but I can't locate this and have no idea what it looks like...any ideas what could be doing this? Is there a different relay for the hi beams? I have an inspection coming up and I am afraid it won't pass....thanks for any ideas

Re: DRL diode???WHERE IS THIS???

My service manual is for '99 old body style C/K. If you have a new body style, things may be a bit different. Diode 203 is located "Part of the I/P harness, at the right side of the steering column support." The diode is nothing more than a voltage drop to the low beams with the light switch off for drl's. When the light switch is on it sends a signal to the drl module to relax the relay and send full voltage to the headlamps. In addition this light switch "on" signal also tells the module to turn off the drl indicator. The drl module is the controlling factor in all this. I'm 90% sure the diode is ok, but who knows??

Can you turn the headlights on with the key off and switch between high and low beams? With the key on do the drl's and indicator lamp go out when you set the parking brake?

Re: Re: DRL diode???WHERE IS THIS???

When I turn the lights on with the key switch off it does not switch between hi/lo beams...the DRLs remain on. Yes the DRL indicator goes off when I engage the EBrake...also the other day when the buzzing noise began I tapped the dash and it stopped for a while and the lo beams came on (drl indicator turned off)....then shortly thereafter the buzzing began again, I tapped again, drl went off and lobeams came on, and so on...any thoughts???
