Unhappy Transmission

Newbie here. When have to pass a car. and then stop at a light my transmission doesnt shift at the right speeds. I have checked the fluid level. and it seems ok.The car has 62000 miles on it. Do i need the bands adjusted? I dont know much about transmissions.

If you haven't adjusted your bands, you may want to do that anyway. Also, what kind of ATX fluid do you have in there?

I dont know. Two months ago. i was driving on the I75. when i thought the engine blew up. The head gasket let go,and sprayed oil and antifreeze all over engine. I had the car towed to the nearest garage, and they put a new head gasket, timing belt, water pump, and changed all the fluids

If they didn't use Mopar ATF+3 or 4, then that is going to be your problem right there. The Chrysler trannies are very sensitive and most off the shelf fluids will not work long term. You can try flushing the system and make sure you or your mechanic puts in the correct fluid.

Re: Transmission

Neon transmissions use a throttle cable (connected to gas pedal) for shifting gears. Check that the cable is working.

Re: Transmission

my car is having trouble also. ive had for 5 days now it only has 40,000 miles on it and the other day the check engine light came on and the tranny wouldnt shift out of first gear, i had to drive home like 40 mph the whole way but the next day the engine light went out and its fine now. monday im gonna take it in and get it checked though. I hope i didnt do any damage cuz a couple of times i hit 70 in first.
