reliability issues...

Hey y'all this is my first post on this forum, and I just wanted to say whattup! Anyway, I am seriously considering a 2002 GTI but am a little concerned with some of the reliability things I've been hearing about VWs. (I currently own a Civic...boo I know, I know) I know the new models have a new standard 4 year warranty and that sounds damn sweet. Anyone out there have a fourth Gen GTI that is having constant probs? Also, I know that there used to be a 4dr GLS equipped with a 1.8t engine. Does anyone know if that engine is still available on the GLS (it isn't on the website) or if you can only get it on the GTI. Thanks in advance, I'm kinda on the fence so any feedback'd be cool.

Try the vortex

Hey Ann,
I personally am not digging this forum. If you look at how long this topic has been posted, you will see the response level... you are the only response and you are a newbie too!
IMO, VWVORTEX.com has some good forums, a little more newbie friendly and if you take the time to read through the vast level of threads they have going, before you post, you are sure to learn a lot.
As for your question, I am pretty sure that a lot of the problems associated with the A4 (mk4) GTIs: MAF, window regulators and what not have been pretty much addressed for the 2002. I mean, it still is pretty much the luck of the draw but chances of a lemon are much lower with this model year I think. I am still on the fence, but I am leaning toward the dub more and more everyday.
I hope this helped, at least a little. Another option you have is to wait for the 25 anniversary GTI, scheduled for the near future. 6spd, Recaros, 18"BBS, suspension, 180hp 1.8t etc for around 24k. Just my .02 but check out the vortex, they at least responded to my posts!

Moderators lock me if you want, but it is the truth!

Reliability issues for new VW!?. It comes with 10yr 100k mile drive train warrenty and optional 8yr 80k mile bumber to bumber, I mean everything is covered except sprarks plugs, brake pads, and light bulbs. I got the extended warrenty for just over $1000 in '98. Believe me, it has already payed its self back.

PS.....industry seacret for current VW for US market.

Jetta and Bug.....................made in Mexico
Golf...................................made in Germany.

get my drift?
