Question Towing with Grand Vitara

Hi,
My wife has a 1999 Grand Vitara and we just purchased a couple of PWCs. One weights 600 lbs. dry and the other 867 lbs. dry. The trailer is about 400 lbs.
We would like to tow this with hte Grand Vitara, basically just to launch them as we have a cottage on the water and they'll stay in the water all summer. For the winter we would to store them in our garaga in the city which is about 100 miles away.
Will it be ok to tow these with the GV?
Thanks.

without a problem! i have a 98 chevy tracker 2 door and they can tow up to 2500lbs. so your gv should have no problem

My 2002 GV is rated for 1500 lb towing, which seems really low. I have only pulled loads under 1000 lbs, without any effort at all.

Is it a braking issue?

Re: Towing with Grand Vitara

i have the same question about the low tow rating...

i figured it was just a braking issue, so i am buying a trailer with brakes...

i am planning a trip from oklahoma to california this summer and will need to tow 2000 lbs ...

i have a 2.5l auto 2wd... is there anything i should do to prepare for the trip (tow vehichle wise)

thanks,
chris

It's only rated for 1500 lbs, so technically you can only tow 1 at a time.

Again, I am surprised that the xl7 is rated for double the weight. I suspect it is either the shorter wheelbase, or perhaps smaller brakes.

You may be able to get the full load going, but you may jack-knife or not be able to stop quickly.

Tow one at a time?
