truth about maxx autoworks. beware!!!
My experience started with maxx autoworks in 2002, I had a new Lexus is300 that I wanted more horsepower. He recommended nitrous then turbo, Jt explained that turboing would be very easy since the 2JZ has been turbo’d for years. We agreed on a price that would include free labor if I let them replicate the parts to make their turbo kit, it would take 3 weeks for the replication to take place. We found a turbo and manifold that worked; Jt explained that all I needed was to run 2 additional injector’s with split second esc1. After months of excuses I ended up doing most of the mechanical install. I left the programming of the esc1 up to maxx autoworks. The first trip I took was about 250 miles each way; I had to fuel up 3 times each way. I took the car back to maxx autoworks, they had mix up the signal so the 2 additional injectors would turn on in vacuum and shut off in boost. I then got a huge labor bill because the guy that was going to replicate the intercooler piping and exhaust had lost his job. I asked Jt why that was my fault because he lost his job, I was told that if I did not pay he would put a lien on my car. I paid for the messed up exhaust, which I had to have repaired later because it was wearing a hole in my brake line. The waste gate was grossly to small (35mm) I kept telling Jt that I had bad boost creep, I was told that it was tuning, then the exhaust housing was to small. So after buying a new exhaust housing the creep never slowed down. I asked Jt for 2 years to tune my car; finally after 2 years he tuned it. Right after he tuned it, the same day I started using oil. Within 3 hours after the tuning I started see my oil light come on.The next day I had to add 2.5 quarts. This became a common practice for 5 months; Jt kept saying that this was due to bad valve guides. Finally I cornered him in Aug of 2004 and asked him to pull the head and send it down to honest performance in federal way. He picked up my car and took the bumper off that he had help make with me. I supplied the bumper and all the materials and had a body shop in Edmonds finish it. I asked all through Aug and sept why would they not finish the head. I called him repeatedly to update me on what my pistons looked like, he said they where fine. During this time I had called SRT and Peter Ferrel and they said that there was no way that valve guides would leak that much oil. I was told to look at the pistons. I called Jt and he fed me a line that honest performance was severely backed logged so I called honest performance, they didn’t know what I was talking about, They had no head off of a 2JZ. I immediately drove down to the shop to check on the car, the head was not removed. They pulled the head the next day and honest called me to tell me the valve guides where worn a bit but looked ok. I told this to Jt who said that he was having problems with them being up front with him. I asked that the motor be pulled and the pistons check. I then bought new JE pistons because I just new that the pistons was the reason for the oil consumption. Sure as shit the ring landing on 2 of the pistons was severely damaged. Jt to this day states that there was nothing wrong with the pistons. Jt and Derek now told me to find bearings for the car, they told me what ones to get and I called Toyota looking for them. Remember I have never worked on a motor before, other that simple shit, now I am looking for main bearings. Well I got the wrong ones and finally Jt called Lexus and found out that they bearings were numbered. Lexus tried to deliver the bearing, but maxx was closed at 2:30pm. They tried 2 other times and were no shown; finally called to make sure that someone was there. Derek charged me 1 hour labor to sit was wait for parts that should have been delivered the first time. It is now December 5 months to put a motor together. Back in October I bought an SDS EM4 6F from Jt, gave him the payment in my office for it. They then gave me a song and dance that SDS was back ordered, but he would have it any day. In fact it did show up or so I thought. Now it is starting to piss me off it is now January and the sds is still not installed or wired yet I am being billed for wiring. I keep paying the bills. In mid march I get tired of the lies and dead lines that pass by. I get repeated lies about the 6 speed being installed. I have the car towed back to my house after repeated lies and parts missing. What I find is amazing, The hal sensor bracket is too long, and it is resting on my sway bar. They sds is not wired; Derek and Jt used my airbag power wire as the power source for the SDS. My glove box is cut to pieces. I have a mechanic from a local Toyota dealership come over to the house. He is very familiar with the SDS system. We start pulling everything out that Maxx did. Wrong throttle body, holes cut through firewall instead of pulling rubber plugs that was 1.5 inches away. Manifold was bolted down with no gaskets. Injectors had metal shavings on the tips. They then ran a new power cable down my frame rails and zip tied it to my fuel line and then drilled a 1 inch hole in the middle of my trunk. Even though a 1 inch rubber grommet was 6 inches away, the power cable was then secured in the trunk via zip tie. Just towing the car home, the jagged hole had cut up the insulation of the power cable. Finally the wiring of the SDS was completed, even though maxx had billed for it and had never done. I contacted SDS Race Tech and asked them for help. After talking with Ross @ race tech it was found that Jt had installed the magnets in the wrong place. The car still would not run, 4 of the 6 injectors where not firing. I then see a small sticker on the side of the SDS unit it reads 3SG 720cc. I contact sds with this email and there response is amazing here is a copy.

Your ECU was purchased in May 2003, marked on tag 3SG 720cc injectors. This is an EM-3 4F, not 6F and does not have the latest data logging software. EM-3 units have not been supplied for over 2 years now. Our records indicate that no EM-4 6F has been ordered by Maxx Auto in October 2004 for your application nor at any time in the last 12 months. All orders are shipped within 1-5 days once payment and system details have been received by us. This is not the first time that Jon has blamed us for delivery problems. In most cases, he has never placed the order, has taken the customer's money for months given them false stories when he is totally to blame. We revoked their SDS dealer status about 2 years ago after customer complaints about their service and placed them on a pre-paid only delivery schedule. Now after this report, we will no longer supply Maxx Auto with any more SDS units. We don't like to be blamed for problems like this when Jon is making false statements and lying to customers. This reflects badly on our good reputation. Sorry to hear that you have had such problems with this company. Cheers, Ross Ok this just pisses me off I paid $1650.00 for a 4cyl out dated ecu that came out of the mr2. I emailed Jt several times about this, no response. I work out an arrangement with SDS and get a used unit. We start the car and it flys forward in the garage. I was told to make sure the car is not in gear. I tell him it is not in gear. I had the car towed to Toyota and the drop the transmission. Imagine that, the clutch is installed backwards. We get the clutch the right way and install the transmission again. We drive the car back to my house and during the drive oil started to pour out of the engine. Back to the dealership, the leak is massive, 4 quarts in 20 miles have leaked out. I then see that the rear main is my old one, they reinstalled my old rear main. This was witnessed by several Toyota mechanics. I asked that they look at the oil pan since now it is apparent that maxx had done nothing correct. A metal cover just above my rear main that was pouring out oil. Here we found 6 bolts 2 of these 6 bolts had actually deadheaded against the block. I could rock this plate back and forth. 1 bolt was an auto body bumper bolt and the last few were short mixed bolts. Behind this cover there was no gasket, no gasket material what so ever. This was also witnessed by mechanics at Toyota. One of the guys working on my car blurts out what the fuck. The o-ring that goes between my block and oil pan for the oil pump and covered in the black crap. They had taken a damaged o-ring and gooped this crap on to fix it. Instead of spending the $1.19 to buy a new one. I am now having the entire motor rebuilt. There are huge amounts of metal shaving in the oil pan. Jt still won’t refund me for the sds, labor for things he did not do. They had the bumper replicated while my car was there. They had the paint sanded off the bumper, the bumper came back broken and cracked. I have it taken to the original body shop that helped me finish it. I was told the bumper is fucked and to get a new one. Jt refuses to replace it and is busy selling them on ebay, he is even using the pics of my car to do so. He is operating maxx autoworks with out a business license, now he is funneling his business through his new shop. “the dirt side inc”.
