S-15 check engine light
Ok i have a 1986 GMC S-15 4x4 2.8L V6 with an RV cam.
When i go on the freeway, or accelereate passed 60 km/hour my check engine light comes on, and it stalled. I started it again and it ran fine, but the check engine light stayed on. I parked for 10 mins and came back and the light was out and ran fine. I recently got it fixed because the retard who did the work on it, stuck a screw into the MAP Sensor and figured that it would run fine, instead it wouild stall. I was told that there is a problem with these truck in the computer with the fuel management. Any one have any ideas, any help would be great |

Re: S-15 check engine light
so are you saying the truck is running fine now that you fixed the problem, or you think its fuel related?

Re: S-15 check engine light
That what was causing the problem before with the stalling, I read in Haynes that there could be a problem with the CALPAK and that there is 2 possible chips for the ECM and it needs the other one. The problem now is that if i go over 60 70km an hour the check engine light comes on, but only sometimes stalls

Re: S-15 check engine light
I checked to see if there were any codes in the PROM and it came back 3 flashes, pause, 2 flashes does this mean that the ECM is bad or the EGR

Re: S-15 check engine light
Where abouts is the EGR Valve, and how do you clean it?

Re: S-15 check engine light
behind the throttle body and kinda under the fuel lines. it has a vacuum hose on it. at the other end of that vac hose is the silinoid.

Re: S-15 check engine light
I found it, and noticed that a golf Tee was blocking off the vaccum lines to the EGR and away, I reconnected them and tried out the truck but i had it up to 80 km and the SES light came on. but nothing happened.

Re: S-15 check engine light
going to have to take it off and clean it. once off youll see a plunger, tap not beat onit with a hammer. could spray alittle carb cleaner in it. just a little carbon flake in there will give you truoble.
if the light still comes on, youll propably have to change out the silinoid(eac) for it. |

Re: S-15 check engine light
Well i checked the EGR and it seemed clean, i started the truck, and depressed the valve and it stumbled and when i let off the valve it ran back to normal idle. Does this mean that the valve is fine, and that theres a vaccume leak somewhere or that the solied is dead?

Re: S-15 check engine light
thats normal, the soleniod will open and close it when it is told to. your problem is that it stays open too long. atleast that is what it says in the haynes manual. code 32 egr is open too long. might need new solenoid.
