Help Oil

Hey guys i am gonna change my oil this weekend and i wanna go synthetic. I have 80,000 miles on the stang. I have heard that if u havnt been using synthetic from the get go then ur not susposed to switch. but in my research i have read that it is ok to switch. So i am going to buy FRAM oil filter and 10 W 30 Q advanced synthetic. do u guys recomend something else? and is it ok to switch oils thanks a bunch.

Re: Help Oil

I have been told its ok to switch from reg oil to synthetic oil but never to switch back. Also I would get a motorcraft oil filter. Fram is the other 4 letter F word, I wouldnt run a fram on a lawn mower. Fram filters do not have a check valve in them to prevent a dry start. If you go to NAPA or probably almost any other local parts house they have a picture (atleast they do here) showing a cut open Fram and where they do not have the check valve. Also I would suggest you stay away from quaker state. I'm sure they have improved over the years but I have seen a half dozen engines with the heads and oil pan crammed full of crud from QS oil and or STP. The 302 I pulled out of my Granada had always had Castrol oil with a motorcraft filter in it and there was little to no buildup after 172,xxx miles.

Re: Help Oil

Best filters on the market for the price is Wix.

Oil is oil, synthetic are good because they will give you a little more power, and they don't break down as quickly. Other than that, its all the same.

I use Castrol synthetic and I haven't had any problems and the engine runs great.

As for the filters I hear K&N's new oil filter is top of the line. The thing is do you really want to pay $20 for an oil filter?

Re: Help Oil

I use Red Line, Royal Purple, or Amsoil.

Moble 1 for off the shelf.

Bumper to Bumper parts carries Wix brand. Wix are pretty good, as are Motorcraft.

Re: Help Oil

Ight well i really wanna go synthetic but my dad is aganist it. He put synthetic into his vw about 8 yrs ago and his oil pressure droped to 10 lbs and all the carbon and everything striped off or something like that. He told me that he had took the oil pan off and greased the main bearings then put 40 weight oil in it to get the oil pressure back up.
He also thinks its kinda a waste on a 80 thou mile engine. So i am trying to sell him the idea to change my oil to synthetic so any imput would be great on how to prove to him its gonna help.
