Bad relay designs?

Wh can tell me about Chevy coming out with bad relay designs for the 86-88 IROCS?

I heard that they had to redesign the two relays for the MAF system. I so happen to have the older design and I am having the exact problems of running rough, engine surge, and stalling.

The way I understand it is a code 33 for these years coulld also be saying these relays need replacement. Right no I have part#14078907 for both MAF relays. The updated ones are #10094701 and #10067925.

Well, firstly GM didn't design any relays, they bought them from a vendor. And changed vendors in the 1990 + cars.
The only major changes to the MAF system came about in 1986 when they dropped the MAS module and replaced it with 2 relays for the MAF.

Those two relays they came out with for the MAF are the ones I'm talking about. I understand that there are replacement relays out there for the original ones in '87-'88.

I believe the vendor they may have used was Bosch??

Possibly Bosch, but if you go to a parts store and get replacements you won't be getting Bosch. The later years relays won't even fit in the sockets for the older relays.
On a side note...I'm still running my original fuel pump relay...same P/N as the MAF relays. My 85 only had that one realy, but 3 years ago it was still running the original MAS module, till I converted to the 165 ECM.

I tried replacing the relays and it didn't fix my problem. Back to the drawing board!
