New to Dirtbikes-Many Questions

I'd like to get into dirtbiking but i'm not sure what to buy. I'm a beginner, but im also about 6 feet tall, if that matters. So I'm wonder what would be suggested for me to buy in the way of a bike.
Thanks

Re: New to Dirtbikes-Many Questions

If I were you I'd try to locate something used that's not too expensive, It's a great sport but some people just don't like it. If you can find something like a 125cc the power will not overwhelm you. You can always move up to a 250 or larger. I just got back into riding this past summer it's been at least 20 + years since I rode as a kid. I was able to find a 1990 Kawasaki KDX200 cheap The bike is in great shape and from what I was able to find out the KDX is a good relaible bike. If you can keep it cheap, if you find out you don't like it your not out a bunch of $$ and it should be easy to sell a low cost bike.
Good luck, be careful and most of all have fun.
Check out as many dirt bike forums that you can. I typed KDX200 in a search and was able to find a KDX forum.Check it out if you can.

When I first started riding I got a bike that was too small and ended up getting tired of it quick. I would get at least a 250cc twostroke or 400cc four. Wear your protective equipment.

Did you buy a bike yet? You failed to mention what type of riding you want to do. Desert? trails? race? this will have an impact on what type of bike you should be looking at. Also -2 stroke versus 4 stroke. Each has their benefits.

If you're still in the market- write back and let us know. Then maybe we can help you narrow it down a little.

Hey, im also thinking about getting into dirt bikes. I would mainly be trail riding with my buddies from work. Im about 230lbs and the guys at work say I should look at getting a used 400 what do you guys think is a 400 too much should I look for a 250? Also 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

Thanks
