Thumbs up Hello everyone!

Hi everyone!
My name is Roy, i'm from Israel.. i've just decided to revive my childhood hobby and bought two tamiya kits. oops... EDIT: skyline gt-r & evo 8

my search on the internet for kits & info as in Israel you cant find it....shops nor info led me to this forum.
after reading quite a LOT of usefull faq & tips i must say its a treasure! you guys rock! anyway got me so worked up i went & purchased an aztek airbrush (for beginners).

i do want to ask one thing tough.. i understood completely how to paint the body but regarding the interior painting.. should i prime each and every part i intend to paint if i use acrylics?

thanks a bunch, Roy

Welcome!

As for priming non-body parts, ther are people here who do it both ways. You certainly can prime everything, but for interiors, engines, suspension, and other detail parts, it's really not necissary. Give everything a good scrub with an old toothbrush and some dishwashing soap, and you'll be fine.

Personally, I only use primer on bodies, or on parts that I'm painting with 'hot' laquers. Acrylics you can paint right on the plastic.

Re: Hello everyone!

Welcome to AF! Enjoy your time here!

I like to prime everything if only because I like to have everything the same color before I paint it the final color, so if a kit has black plastic seats to put into a white interior bucket, the color on both of them matches. It's also a little piece of mind for me to use primer; primer is made to stick to plastic and paint is made to stick to primer.

Re: Hello everyone!

Welcome Roy! שלום
When painting with acrylics you have a few options. When using acrylics I personally like to just use a sealer, you can spray it with your airbrush and it is does wonders, esspecially if you clear coat it with a lacquer based clear paint. If you are interested in buying it there is a store called "fix line" and you may get good clear lacquer paints from Ace.

Re: Hello everyone!

Hiya!
I know just how you feel about AF - I'm wearing the same shoes as you
I also like to prime everything (on the sprue) - more out of principle and a "belts and braces" philosophy than anything although Willimo's point is well made.
Two watchouts though: it uses up the primer REALLY fast 'cos your spraying a lot of "thin air"; 2) don't carried away with it otherwise you're in danger of filling up fine details
