OKOKOK, I wanna put a kill switch in my trunk.
1. Is that a decent place? My rationale is that I have absolutely NO security wahtsoever, and if the switch is located in the trunk, at least whoever breaks into it won't be able to find the killswitch. 2. How in the hell do you install a killswitch? What gauge wire, where do you run it (under the body / through the interior), and what exactly do you hook up to it... Red cable from battery under body, into trunk (drill hole) to switch, from switch to red terminal on starter? What about the black wire? (is there even a black wire???) Any ideas? Thanks |

well on a FI car, you can just install a switch to the fuel pump relay.
On your car however, I would put a switch on your coil pickup wire. Where ever you put it, you have to disable your ing. system. If you have an MSD box, switch the power to that. disabling the starter system is another thought but, if you have your ing system disabled, that garuntees it won't fire. Theifs are messing with your starter system to begin with so they might find your switch wiring and bypass it.

Re: Killswitch
Sooo what.. I just put the switch in the trunk, re-rout the feed to the MSD box to the switch then go back from the switch to the MSD box?
I guess use the same gauge wire the feeds the MSD box, or should I go down a gauge (from 12 to 10 or whatever) to handle the increased load due to the distance? |

Re: Killswitch
Am I going about this right though... Is the killswitch to the MSD box my best alternative?

Re: Killswitch
Usually switches are somewhere where you are sitting wher you know but no one else will. If it was in your trunk that would mean you'dh ave to pop your trunk turn it on/off every time which probably would be kinda suspcious if anyone was planning to jack your car.

Re: Killswitch
Well here's my problem. The window glass just kinda rests there so anyone can easily get into my car. The hood only has the pin and clips, so anyone can get to the engine if they want. I was figuring that the trunk is the only place that they can't get into without a key, so who cares if they see me open it and shutting it?
Wrong point of view? |

Re: Killswitch
I should add that if they can get into the car without a problem whatsoever, it would give them time to find a killswitch inside the car. Maybe I'm being a little paranoid, or don't understand, but I read someplace that USUALLY, like 98% of the time, a thief can find a killswitch. If it's in the trunk they can look all they want, they ain't finding it.
Any ideas of a different place to put it? Or should I maybe be doing something different. I just thought that a killswitch would be the most effective at shutting everyhthing down, and the trunk would be the most secure place for it. |

Re: Killswitch
Put it non-visible without flashing lights. Kill switches can be very small. Hell you could even put it so you have to lift up your left foot at a 40 degree angel to get to it thats buriedup under carpet and near the firewall. No one will see that. And its simple. And you can do it without even your passengers noticing.

Re: Killswitch
Point taken. Now how about wiring the damn thing? Is it as simple as running the hot wire from the MSD box to the kill switch and then another back to the MSD box? (It would be nice if it were that easy.)

Re: Killswitch
http://www.bfranker.badz28.com He does it with his window switch but you'll find it on there.

Just a quick question, what do you mean your window is just sitting there?

Re: Killswitch
That seems to have WAY more wires in one square inch than I have in my entire car.

Re: Killswitch
Well, you can pull it back and easily get a slimjim in it, prolly could even reach you hand down in there. It doesn't have a real tight seal like doors that have the channel all the way around the windows. I guess yours is prolly the same, but being an older car, it's a LOT easier to get into.

Re: Killswitch
ok my guess is your doing the power wire for your msd box? if so you just cut the wire going from the battery to the box and make the 2 wires( 2 wires since you cut em) and make em longer and attach one to one skrew on the switch and the other to the other wire. so when the switch is on its like a continous wire and when its off its not a whole wire. its a wire to nothing. and for hiding it do you have a locking glovebox or center console thing? if so you could put it somewhere in there.

The easiest way to install a kill switch is to find the power wire to the ignition coil, and install the switch inline with this wire. When the switch is off, no spark, and the car will not start. However, for this type of switch I recommend putting this switch inside the car somewhere, in a hid place. Somewhere under the dash, or whee only you know whee it is. Be careful not to accidentally swotch the switch off while the car is running though, because it will shut the car off. If you have a MSD box, your going to want to slice into the green wire running from the MSD box to the ignition coil.
