Hey guys i'm starting my '71 project and have a problem... The car has been sitting for about 15 yrs little rust w/staight body. I think I've evicted all the mice/rats & got some good tires on it so I can role it around. My problem is the d-side door... it won't open it's like it's welded shut. I know it's not because my pops is 2nd owner & it opened when he use to drive it. Has anyone else had this problem & if so how can I get it open without damaging something.

Re: 1971 318 Duster Project
For the brakes, just find a disc brake Duster/Valiant and liberate the steering knuckles, calipers, hubs/rotors, brake hoses, master cylinder and any splitter blocks for the brake hoses.
You will have to remove the old knuckles to get the new disc brake knuckle to sit in the control arms. While you are in there, change the ball joints. Also, to be safe, bebuild the calipers and master cyl. As for the door, can you remove the interior panel with the door closed. If not, use a coat hanger or Slim Jim on the outside (Night time is best, use a flashlight for a good look down into the door) and slide it down. The idea is to give the door latch linkage a tug. Chances are the linkage is either seized or a component has fallen off. |

Re: 1971 318 Duster Project
Oops!!!... It's a '72 not '71... lol Thx for the help MagicRat. Haven't gotten to the door or brakes yet kinda got discouraged for a bit but now back at it. Did some VIN research and found I have a '72 not '71, so that was an interesting find. Cranked the 318 up today after about 20yrs and it actually sounds pretty good. Although of course it's gonna have to come out for a rebuild while the body, paint & other mechanicals & accessories are tweeked. Any more help and/or suggestions are welcome especially on my engine rebuild let me know... my first build so i'm green and game for whatever...lol holla later..... p e a c e
