Oil on carpet! HELP!!

Had a horrible weekend for my truck (F-250 diesel). I spilled orange Gatorade on the carpet (grey). Took it to the detail shop and they couldn't get it out. They said that orange colors are hard to remove.

Then I had a gallon jug of 2 cycle oil spring a leak and dripped on my carpet and ran underneath.

Does anyone have a sugguestion of how to clean this oil from the carpet? Most of it is on the underneath side.

The oil is going to be hard to get out, think how hard it is to get it off your clothes. Try some of the stain removers made for juice spill in your home, it should help with the Gatorade

Re: Oil on carpet! HELP!!

I spilled a 1/4 qt or so in my car and it sucked to get out. But here is what I did and had moderate success with:

First being at home I took out the floor mat and dabbed up as much oil as possible. Then I drenched it in 409 carpet cleaner and resolve carpet cleaner. Then I put it under a hose and tried to wash out the oil. I used a sponge to try and push excess oil out. I let it dry for a day and repeated 2 more times over 3 or 4 days.

I then still had to put paper towels under and over the floor mat and put weight on it for a day to try and get any excess oil out.

The actual car floor was worse...it didn't have as much oil as the floormat, but the smell was overpowering. So I had to air the car out alot. I used paper towels with the same 2 carpet cleaners. When I got to work I used an extractor to get the 'rest' out.

Just don't give up...luckily my carpeting is black, but the smell is gone, so I assume I got most if not all of it out. Just keep repeating...it took awhile to get it all.

Lastly, I've never heard orange being harder than another color. I've gotten alot worse out of carpets than Gatorade, so I don't know but you may want to consider trying another detail shop that may have more experienced people and/or better tools and products. Just my .02 Good luck.
