Lightbulb Stereo Questions?

I Have A 2000 Mercury Mountaineer (v-8) With Premier Package. The Stereo Is A Cd/tape Combo With A Sub-woofer In The Pass/rear Panel.

Is It Possible To Add An After Market Amplifier And Subwoofer System To The Exsisting Stock Stereo? What Sort Of Accessories Will I Need? I'm Wanting To Add These Items Without Having To Replace The Head Unit.

If I Do Replace The Head Unit, Is It Possible To Continue Using The Stereo Function Buttons On The Steering Wheel?

Lastly, What Size Speakers Are In The Doors?

Re: Stereo Questions?

I have a 97 mountaineer which originally had the JBL system. I use my factory deck (so I can still make use of my factory cd changer) with my aftermarket equipment. I just bypassed the factory amp, put my new amp before it, and all my door speakers, tweeters, and my sub draw off the amp.

And I believe they are 5x7 size but you can put 6x8

Well, yes.

You can add a new sub and amp but sound Q will be limited to the head unit. You can add an aftermarket stereo and use a special adaptor to retain the steering controls only if you get a stereo with remote control. PAC is the company that I use for that.
