1997 Grand Cherokee ABS Problem
My ABS light comes on when I start the car and when moving. For a while the light would come on and stay on and then the next day or week it would work normally and the ABS light would go off after an initial delay upon starting. Now it is on all the time. I had it tested at muffler brake shop and was told there was a control module problem (Code 40 I think) they recommended changing the pump and control module or taking it to an electrical testing place to see if there was a short in the lines or unit. Any suggestions or similar problems/solutions from any members?

Iam not sue your ABS System reads out in # codes like 40 it might IThink it reads in Abrevations. You will have to take it to a good Brake shop ones that work on ABS. The only way to access the codes is with a Scan Tool. You might try the Jeep Dealer some of Chryslers ABS componets have a life time warranty. If you have to change the pump and module your looking at lot of money. Check the fuses first there should be 3 fuses 2 in the power distrbution center and 1 in the junction block. It could be just a wheel sensor hard to tell without doing Diagnostics.

Re: 1997 Grand Cherokee ABS Problem
I had it tested with Scan Tool and the result was a Code # 30 - ABS Pump Circuit Malfunction. Does this mean the pump must be replaced or are there other options?

Its possible that your pump is bad, hard to tell with out seeing the Scan read out. Check the fuses and all electrical connections around the pump to make sure there is none corroded.
