low coolant level

My 2000 grand cherokee had no problems but was due for rear differential service. Since then I have been losing coolant. is there any possible relationship to the service performed?

Re: low coolant level

Not likely. I think you would call this a coincidental occurance!!!

Check the area under the water pump (fan or pulley) at the front of the engine. (6 or 8???)

Put a piece of cardboard under the engine when you park the car for the nite.... check in the morning for spots and drip pattern as to where it might be coming from.

Just my two cents

I have noticed that with my 2000GC at each change of seasong between fall and spring I get a couple of alarms for antifreeze. I fill the resevoir when the happen and have no problems after that. I dunno if thats good or bad but I have no problems with it after spring.

Something EVERYONE FORGETS : The engine coolant isa mixture of antifreeze and WATER. Pure water boils at 212 degrees F., 100 degrees C. When the coolant expands into the overflow resevoir it is above the boiling point of water due to the higher boiling point due to the antifreeze mixture. To allow the coolant into the res., it is vented. So the water eventually EVAPORATES out of the coolant. Always double check the coolant level in the radiator and make sure it is in the correct TEMPERATURE ZONE so you dont boil over and sieze the engine up! And then make sure the resevoir is filled to the correct level with the proper mix of antifreeze and water. Since we have gone this far, before filling, pull the res and flush it out, there is no sense sendinf all that sediment back into the system.

The first car I drove still had an alcohol bottle mounted under the hood. Since the onset of modern antifreeze, the coolant system has become one of the most neglected parts of any automotive system, unless you live in a desert.
