Rodeo 97 Burning Rubber Smell

Everytime that i drive it for more than 10 miles, when i get out there's a strong smell of burning rubber.

Any ideas.

I have a 1997 Rodeo with 77K miles on it.
3.2L V6 Engine, Standar 5 speed transmission with 4WD.

Get up under the car and look for something rubbing on the tires or maybe something wedged up against your exhaust that could be melting or burning. Thats all I can think of right now.

My 2002 has done that since new. Never did determine if it is from brakes, exhaust, cooling system, etc... Nothing has ever failed or burned up. You only notice it when you pull right into the garage after a hywy run. Some have speculated it's undercoating close to or dripping on something hot, but my 2002 has no spray-on, sticky type OEM undercoat . I've often wondered if it's from the vast amount of RTV sealer on every engine/powertrain joint giving off the rubber smell, or maybe an exhaust hanger near the HOT cats.

Wink

Or maybe you just need to keep your foot out of the TBI when the light goes green?

Well, I was joking but TBI stand for Throttle Body Injector, or something.

I had this on my 94' and it turned out to be rear axle seals leaking and forming a big carbon deposit on my rear brakes.

This is what is happening with my 98. Rear brake dust shield is covered in diff oil. Seal needs to be replaced.
