Re: new eclipse

Its stronger than a 3g for a fact. I think its AWD. I saw one today at my local Mitsu dealershit and it doesnt look bad from a not too far distance. I think they just smashed the 2g and 3g together and came with this. Well the best thing i like about it is that it has MIVEC.

Re: new eclipse

The new Mitsubishi Eclipse is a front wheel drive car only as it stands currently. As far as what I think... its to expensive for the GT model, which is the only one I would consider, and would rather get a non-front real drive car for an est. 28k tag and for the power the GT puts down. Overall the exterior looks to bulgy and portly imo. It would be interesting to see an AWD version of this car although it would undoubtedly be overpriced, and considering the looks, unless they change, I would opt for a Subaru. As far as performance, it also doesn't seem like anything spectacular for the est. price of the GT. I like Eclipses but this one does the name no justice. My 2 cents

Re: new eclipse

The more I look at it, the more I'm begining to like it. Especially in that pearl orange flagship color.

That 3.8 V6 is one beefy engine for an NA. Strtegically, mitsubishi needed a strong NA contender to stand alongside the turbo Evo. I think they pulled it off beautifully. The car whups butt in the slaloms versus the 350Z, rx-8, etc, and beats the rx-8 straight line. Plus, I don't think any RSX can touch this new eclipse at any level.

The designing is strangely attractive, reminiscing the drama of the 2G body lines and curves yet againt, a nostalgic touch for me at least, especially with the rear window panel and hatch interesecting.

The engine is pretty damn powerfull and massive for its class, and the interior is really slick. Not to mention the optional fosgate system. People are saying a lot of crap about it being front-wheel, yada yada ya...whatever. I'd buy the new eclipse without a second thought, and slap on a quaiffe if the front-wheel issue really boethered me that much. Honestly, some people act as if its the end of the world if the car's not AWD or RWD. Its just silly sometimes...

For me, the new eclipse offers much more in power, interior and styling that counters the wrong-wheel-drive dilemma, and then some. Wait for the Spyder model

My 2 cents.

Re: new eclipse

I personally have a front wheel drive car, so that obviously means that I too like front wheel drive cars. This particular car though doesn't do it for me. I like eclipses, just not this one...the same engine specs. with the older looks and the 6 spd. tranny would be awesome.
As far as the RSX not touching it, CAR AND DRIVER has a graph comparison in which the RSX holds its own in a few categories; 0-60, 1/4 mile, and roadholding to name the important ones. Not saying it can spank it or even beat it, but it can hold its own despite being the less powerful of the two. But I have no doubts that in the near future the Eclipse will only get better with the additional models to follow.

Personaly i think the styling is worthless from the stupid little wing thing on the back to the front. Im glad they brought back the eclipse's big ass but the front look terrible. Nothing blends together, the lights look like wannabe cavalier lights and that wing looks like somebody took some spare part and glued it anywhere on the car. The front kind of looks like a pigs snout being all smushed back. The sides are bulgy and dont flow i think the 2g is soooooooooo much better looking. i'll admit its a step up from the hideous 3g but only a baby step. As far as power goes, i know it has like 265 HP but it also weighs 3700lbs thats like mercedes size as far as im concerned they need to back to their old styling and turbo's
anyways everyone is entitled to their own opinion, my 2 cents
some specs from road and track
0-60 5.8
1/4 14.4
skidpad .83g
slalom 64.1 mph
$23000 base
$26895 with basic goodies (CDplayer airbags etc.)

Re: new eclipse

I agree, the front lights are straight outta no man's land; they could have done way better. Maybe with newer editions they might change them, as they did with the 2G smileys.
